Lifetime Gift from an IRA
Charitable Rollover Extension
(Is this gift for you?)
Make a lifetime gift from a retirement account, after careful review, if you are age 70½ or older and...
- You do not need the additional income necessitated by your minimun required distribution, or
- Your charitable gifts already equal 50% of your adjusted gross income, so you do not benefit from an income tax charitable deduction for additional gifts, or
- You are subject to the 2% rule that reduces your itemized deductions, or
- You do not itemize deductions.
Donors younger than 70½ can make a withdrawal from their IRA or other type of retirement plan, pay income tax on the withdrawal, and donate the proceeds to Yale. These gifts can be made outright or can fund a life-income gift and will generate a charitable deduction for the donor.
