Arthur C. Crovatto, M.D. ’54

“A physician has a special contract with his patient,” asserts Dr. Art Crovatto, M.D. ’54. “It is the doctor’s responsibility to listen, tell the truth, reassure and help. Yale School of Medicine instilled compassion, concern, and confidence in my ability to practice medicine. For that, I had to give back.”

Dr. Crovatto has many ties to Yale: alumnus, clinical faculty member, director of alumni affairs and volunteer. He received the 2004 Distinguished Alumni Service Award for his tireless energy and dedication to Yale School of Medicine.

When he and his classmates were considering a 50th reunion gift, they agreed to establish a scholarship honoring all sixty-five members of their class.  Dr. Crovatto’s contribution to his class gift was a commitment to establish a series of charitable gift annuities.  He and his wife, Janet Herrold Crovatto, whom he met while she was earning her Masters of Nursing at Yale, receive payments from the gift annuities for the remainder of their lives.  Ultimately, their gifts will strengthen the Class of 1954 Scholarship Fund, which provides a permanent source of support to medical students with financial need.

“I am happy that my gift annuities will afford future students the exceptional opportunity to become Yale-educated physicians,” Dr. Crovatto said.
