Our Donors & Their Gifts

Robert A. Callahan, ‘67, M.D. ‘71

As his upcoming 40th reunion from Yale College approached, Dr. Robert Callahan ’67, ’71 M.D. wanted to make a significant gift to the University to honor the occasion. At the same time, however, he was also looking toward diversifying his retirement portfolio. He decided that the choice that best met both of these objectives was to fund a deferred gift annuity which would begin making payments to him and to his wife, Ginny, in ten years.

He says, “Payments will start when we are in our early seventies, just in time for us to begin to enjoy our retirement. I appreciate the significant tax deduction, this year, however.” Dr. Callahan continues, “We want to add a fixed income component to our retirement portfolio and lock in higher annuity payments to begin later. The deferred gift annuity allows us to create opportunities for Yale College and Yale Medical School students in the future, while it also helps me and my family during our post-career years. It is a real plus.”
